Benefits of Sedation Dentistry – Less Anxiety, Healthier Teeth

Sedation Dentistry allows you to maintain your dental health without the fear and anxiety you usually experience.

30% of Americans have a fear of going to the dentist. Of those with fears, sedation dentistry patients tend to have healthier teeth because sedation dentistry allows them to overcome their anxiety and get regular routine dental checkups, cleanings, and as-needed procedures. Also, it is more likely that an anxious or nervous patient can get more dental work done in fewer visits because they feel more comfortable during their procedures.

Safe for Adults and Children

Sedation dentistry is safe for children and adults for minor or extensive dental procedures. Dentists who use sedation in their practice must complete extensive formal training. Every patient is closely monitored by our trained staff and is always under Dr. Trinh-Pham’s close care.

Sedation Options

If you would like to consider sedation on your next visit to Karsil Dental please call us at (281) 485-6008 and we will be happy to explain your options and recommend either inhaled, oral, or IV sedatives for your exam.

Types of Sedation Administration

All sedation dentistry options are used to create a calm and relaxed state for you during your treatment. There are multiple ways that safe sedative drugs (tranquilizers, anti-anxiety medications, and nitrous oxide) can be administered:

  • Intravenous (IV) - safe sedatives are delivered via injection in the hand or arm.
  • Inhalers - a gentle sedative such as nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is slowly inhaled through a mask or small inhaler.
  • Oral Sedation – pill(s) or a liquid will be ingested before the dental appointment.

Sedation Dentistry creates a comfortable environment for patients. Most don’t remember much of their visit and feel like they slept though their treatment. Sedation dentistry is safe and effective all the while the patient maintains a level if consciousness for cooperation and safety.

For Your Safety

You must bring a friend or family member with you that will be responsible for you before, during, and after your procedure. If you are taking oral sedatives you will need someone to drive you to and from your dental visit.

Insurance Costs

Sometimes your insurance will cover the cost of sedation depending on the method. Inhaled and oral sedation are relatively more inexpensive than having IV sedation. Your dentist will go over the procedure and costs with you before continuing with the chosen sedation method and dental procedure.

FAQ

Is sedation dentistry safe for children?

Yes, the correct sedation option will be chosen for them and they will be properly monitored during the procedure.

We require that you bring along a friend or family member that can drive you after and possibly before your visit.
