Periodontal Dental Care

Periodontal diseases are classified according to severity. The two types of periodontal diseases are gingivitis and periodontitis. Gingivitis is milder and reversible, only affecting the gums, which are usually red and tender. Periodontitis is much more serious and destructive. Periodontitis leads to receding gums, bone-loss, infection, and loose teeth.

According to the American Academy of Periodontology, half of American adults have gum disease. It is widely known that periodontal diseases are also linked to other health problems, including increased risk of heart disease, respiratory disease, and diabetes.

Periodontal disease used to require surgery more often than not. While surgery is still sometimes the best option, Dr. Trinh-Pham can now treat many cases with less invasive techniques, including local antibiotics, deep cleanings, and medicated rinses.
